Conceived as a fleet defence interceptor, the F.1 model comes in a clean configuration, as it was never designed for anything more than this role. The F.1 was fitted with the RR Nene Mk.101 engine, supplying 5,000lb thrust, and an armament of 4x 20mm British-built Hispano cannons.
Points of recognition for the F.1 include the radio altimeter aerials under the tailplane, an IFF blade antenna on the rear fuselage, and the lack of the small ram intake on the starboard forward fuselage.
